LELO MAHLANGU

Writer, Storyteller and Poet…

About

You don’t understand.
I stood at her door, shooting daggers into her heart with my eight year old little eyes.
All I could see, were the bones sticking out of her back.
She knew I was there, quietly begging for her to take me into her skinny arms.
To bring the light back into my eyes, and close the space between us.
But she remained perfectly still, her small face dry with tears, crying herself to a permanent sleep.
“She died from a broken heart, wondering what would happen to her children.”
I should have held her hand, warm or as cold as the room that is now mine.
My mother,
She lives in my soul, surrounded by a garden of thorns.
Although I still cannot hold her, she tells me stories.
Stories, of a shameful thing.Lelo is a writer driven by the desire to highlight the impact of society to the people as individuals.
